Poem on Martyrdom "Shahadat" by AR

عنوان: شوقِ شہادت

میں 'الف' لکھوں اللّٰہ میرے۔۔۔

میری خواہش پوری ہو جائے

میں راہِ حق میں مر جاؤں

مجھے کاش شہادت مل جاۓ

میں 'ج' لکھوں تو جاں دے کر

کسی اور کی جان بچا لوں مَیں

جب 'ل' لکھوں تو لباس میرا۔۔۔۔

 لہو سے میرے تر ہو جاۓ

پھر 'ش' لکھوں بڑے شوق کے ساتھ

تو مجھ کو شہادت مل جاۓ

میں فوجی نہیں نہ مجاہد ہوں

اک عام سا بندہ ہوں تیرا۔۔۔

بس جنت چاہیے تجھ سے مجھے

اور وہ بھی شہادت کے ذریعے 

اے میرے خدا۔۔۔ بس تیری ہی راہ

میں جامِ شہادت مل جاۓ۔۔۔

جنہیں چھوڑ جاؤں اس دنیا میں

تنہا بس تیرے سہارے پر۔۔۔۔

انہیں صبر و ہمت مل جاۓ

 اور تیری حفاظت مل جاۓ۔۔۔

English translation 

Craze for Martyrdom

If I write “Alif” (A), O God of mine —

May my desire be fulfilled:

May I die in the path of truth;

I wish I could attain martyrdom.

If I write “Jeem” (J), by giving my life

I would save someone else’s life.

When I write “Laam” (L), my clothes —

May they become wet with my blood.

Then when I write “Sheen” (Sh) with great longing,

May I be granted martyrdom.

I am not a soldier nor a mujahid;

I am just an ordinary person of Yours.

I only want Paradise from You,

And that too by way of martyrdom.

O my God — only for Your path

May I be given the cup of martyrdom.

Those I leave behind in this world,

Alone, dependent only on Your support—

May they be given patience and courage,

And may they find Your protection.
